Hot Melt Glue Liner Front View

The parts are fed from centrifugal feeder (right) to the glue liner using a double chain conveyor. The control panel includes an Operator Interface for monitoring machine status, production quantities, and miscellaneous control. The machine is fully guarded and interlock switch protected to stop the machine if any door is opened. A tower light indicates current running status.  The parts are indexed clockwise around using a specially tooled dial (reduces scuffing) under the hot melt glue head.  A spinning roller rotates the part in the dial as the hot melt glue head is turned on for a precise time.  A heat sensor is used to determine if glue was dispensed, and photocells are used to determine part presence and rotation. Parts that do not pass these tests are extracted from the good part stream and placed in a chute to direct them to a reject box.  Good parts are indexed to the rear of the machine where they are extracted onto a conveyor for transfer to a box. A photocell counts the parts as they exit the conveyor.  A carton indexer is used for continuous multiple box operation. Extremely robust indexing/drive system is designed for continuous operation with minor maintenance.

Hot Melt Glue Liner Centrifugal Feeder

Parts are dumped onto the centrifugal disc for feeding.  Disc and roller will separate, orient and align parts diameter to diameter and feed them to the input conveyor.  Feeder will feed with many parts on disc (as shown) all the way down to none on the disc (self-clearing). Disc and roller speeds are controllable, consistent, and repeatable.

Hot Melt Glue Gun is seen in the middle bottom of this picture.  Bulk supply hose is seen curving up and to the left . Parts are entering the dial from the right at the 3 o’clock position and being indexed clockwise by a specially tooled dial under the hot melt glue gun.  A heat sensor (under metal plate with holes) senses for glue presence. Photocells determine whether a part is present for gluing and whether it spins. If any of these tests fail, the failing part is extracted from the good part stream by the arm at the 9 o’clock position.  Good parts continue in the dial to the 12 o’clock position where they are extracted onto a conveyor for transport to a carton. Dial tooling is easily removed and cleaned to help reduce downtime because of spills.

Parts are entering the dial from the right at the 3 o’clock position and being indexed clockwise by a specially tooled dial under the hot melt glue gun.  The wheel spins the part in the dial to distribute the hot melt evenly. The wheel is mounted on a spring loaded arm to compensate for nonuniform parts.  A precision timer is used to set the length of time the glue gun is on. A heat sensor (metal tube with red end) senses for glue presence. Photocells determine whether a part is present for gluing and whether it spins. If any of these tests fail, the failing part is extracted from the good part stream by the arm at the 9 o’clock position. Good parts continue in the dial to the 12 o’clock position where they are extracted onto a conveyor for transport to a carton. Dial tooling and part retaining tooling is easily removed and cleaned to help reduce downtime because of spills.  Hot melt glue head is mounted on an elevating rod (left side of picture) to lift the head up and out of the way of the dial for easy access for cleaning and maintenance.

Hot Melt Glue Liner Dial Loading Station

The dial has four rollers per station to guide the part while spinning.  This tooling is easily removed for easy cleaning of the dial. A cylinder rod (rod in center of second part from left) acts as an escapement to allow the dial to be cleared automatically.  A loading overload detection lever (bottom) will swing out of the way if a part does not make it into the dial before index occurs. A proximity sensor stops the index, cancels the cycle, and informs the operator that a jam has occurred. This is to protect the transport mechanisms.

Hot Melt Glue Liner Centrifugal Feeder

The centrifugal feeder separates, orients and sorts the parts single file for transfer to the input conveyor.  A center distributing strip moves parts to the outside of the disc, reducing the air needed for the feeder. The feeder can operate from very few parts on the table to many parts making it easy to fill this feeder with a pre-feeder of all types.
